This is a classic game of chance, where players gamble on which numbered slot a small spinning
ball will land. There is American Roulette, with 38 slots on the wheel and
European Roulette with 36 slots. American roulette has 38 slots because it has both the “0” and
“00” slot. In European roulette there is only the “0” slot which a player slightly better odds.
Betting in Roulette is either an Inside Bet or an Outside Bet. Numbers are
either black or red. The skill comes in knowing in which way to bet, so that
the risk is spread on every spin.
Inside Bets
Here the player has the choice of the greatest odds.
- Straight Up Bet
– Place a chip on just one number – odds are 35:1.
- Split
Bet
– Place a chip on the line between two numbers – odds are half - 17:1.
- Street Bet
– Place a chip to cover a three-number row on the table – odds are 11:1.
- Corner Bet
– Place a chip on the crossed lines between four numbers – odds are 8:1.
- Five Number Bet
– Bet only on numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, for odds of 6:1
- Six Number Bet
– Place a chip to cover two rows of three numbers each (on outside line of the two rows)
– odds are 5:1.
Outside Bets
This is a lower risk area where player can hedge their bets by focusing on
the outer perimeter with wide number ranges.
- Choose red or black, high or low, even or odd – for odds of 1:1.
- Choose which of three groups the winning number will fall - 1-12, 13-24 and
25-36 – odds are 2:1.
- Column Bets – Choose which of three columns will contain the winning number
– odds are 2:1.
